State Agencies use of Local Buy on the rise

More than 120 State Government agencies and schools benefited from sourcing goods or services through Local Buy contracts in 2016-2017.  Sourcing goods and services via the suite of more than 35 Local Buy contracts means State Government agencies can avoid the costs of going to market with tenders, conservatively estimated to cost at least $30K.

It's a two-way street.  Many Queensland Councils source goods and services via Queensland State Government SOAs.  The State Government and Local Government sectors ‘piggy-backing’ off each other’s arrangements helps reduce duplication and the unnecessary waste of valuable resources.

State Government agencies and schools used 27 different Local Buy contracts in 2016-2017, for a range of reasons.  This includes wanting to use a particular supplier, for example, a supplier in a regional area, or a particular category that is more akin to Local Government, for example, water and sewerage or town planning services.

The latest Local Buy contracts are:

  • Engineering and Environmental Consultancy Services (BUS 262-0317)
  • Hardware, Industrial, Construction, Electrical (NPN 1.16)
  • Legal Services (BUS 261-1116)
  • Office and Stationery (BUS 258-0816)
  • Pipes, Relining, Pumps, Meters & Precast (BUS 256-0416)
  • Recruitment – Temporary (Vendor Neutral) (BUS 259-0816 (A))
  • Recruitment – Permanent (BUS 259-0816 (B))
  • Workwear and PPE (NPN 3.11-2)
