Description

This Local Buy arrangement is available for use by councils in both Queensland and Tasmania and has been grouped into four categories including:

  • Water and Waste Treatment Chemicals
  • Agricultural chemicals and ;
  • Chemical hardware and technology;
  • Chemical testing, training and compliance

Potable water treatment is required for the health and aesthetic quality of the water supply. Chemical products may be required for coagulation, flocculation, disinfection, absorption, fluoridation but are not limited to these.

Sewage treatment is the process of removing contaminants from . It includes physical, chemical and biological processes to remove contaminants and produce environmentally safe treated (treated effluent). A by-product of sewage treatment is usually a semi-solid waste or slurry, called sewage sludge, that has to undergo further treatment before being suitable for disposal or land application. Products required are for all stages of the sewage treatment process including treatment and sludge treatment.

Swimming pool treatment involves the maintenance of the body of water for public safety. Chemical products may be required for disinfection, shock dosing, stabilising, the adjustment of alkalinity and pH, algae prevention and the control of calcium hardness but are not limited to these.

Herbicides are chemical substances used to kill or control the growth of undesired plants such as weeds. These include but are not limited to non-selective, pre‐emergents and broad leaf weed. Active ingredients may vary according to the targeted plant.

Insecticides are chemical substances used to kill or control undesirable insects at various stages of the life cycle. The active ingredients may vary according to the targeted insect.

Pesticides are chemical substances or devices used to kill or control undesirable pests such as birds or rodents. The active ingredients or device may vary according to the targeted pest.

Fungicides are chemical substances used to kill or control undesirable fungi or fungal spores. The active ingredients may include sulphur and other ingredients depending on the targeted fungus.
