Northern Territory

Since 2015, Local Buy has been providing pre-qualified supplier Arrangements to Northern Territory Councils and other approved entities.

Local Buy supports all 17 Northern Territory councils through an exemption in the Local Government (General) Regulations 2021 that negates the need for councils to perform open tenders, even for procurement activity over the tender threshold.

Local Buy works in partnership with the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) providing access to 42 pre-qualified supplier Arrangements. With a growing need for councils to do more – with less, the reduction in tender administration for both councils and suppliers is essential.

Supporting local Northern Territory suppliers to become Local Buy pre-qualified suppliers, allows council to streamline procurement and provide quality services to local communities.

As a council, or other approved entity, the key benefits of using Local Buy include:

  • Finding trusted pre-qualified suppliers quickly.
  • Legislatively compliant Arrangements that negate the need to Tender.
  • Pre-agreed terms and conditions.
  • Maximum pricing, ensuring value for money.
  • Limit the number of suppliers invited into an RFQ process – simplifying procurement and supporting local procurement priorities.
  • Reduced administrative work by negating the tender process (Local Buy has done that during the pre-qualification process).
  • Free access to online Procurement Technology (VendorPanel) to improve probity and governance.

Local Buy plays a unique role in strengthening the bonds between local businesses and councils. Our pre-qualified Arrangements are an easy way for councils to connect with local suppliers, maximise local spend, and deliver the best outcomes for their communities. Around a quarter of all suppliers on Local Buy are small businesses, social enterprises or Indigenous businesses.

Other not-for-profit organisations, charities and government owned corporations can also benefit from accessing Local Buy pre-qualified supplier Arrangements.
