Local Buy has renewed its partnership with LGANT

Media Release - in conjunction with the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT)

Local Buy has renewed its partnership with Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT), with General Manager Mike Waterland highlighting their shared commitment to supporting local businesses and simplifying procurement across the Northern Territory.

"We are delighted to renew our partnership with LGANT, which allows us to share our extensive knowledge and expertise in procurement with the Northern Territory. This collaboration is a testament to LGANT and Local Buy's commitment to supporting local businesses and advancing procurement,” Mr Waterland said.

Local businesses across the Northern Territory can unlock new opportunities to win work with local government councils through a renewed five-year partnership between LGANT and Local Buy.

Local Buy is a nationally recognised procurement service and the partnership with LGANT makes it easier for local business to supply goods and services to NT councils.

More than $580 million is spent in the NT annually by local government councils and the initial partnership between LGANT and Local Buy facilitated more than $25 million in procurement spending with local suppliers since 2021.

LGANT President Kon Vatskalis said the deal puts Territory businesses in a stronger position to win council work, bypassing complex tenders, and saving time and money in growing their business.

“This partnership simplifies procurement, removes red tape, and puts businesses in front of councils across the Territory.

“The more NT suppliers become Local Buy pre-qualified, the more money stays in our communities,” Mr Vatskalis said.

Darwin-based business CivEng NT joined the Local Buy 18 months ago and has since won two projects.

“It’s’ been great. The portal is very user friendly; you can see all the opportunities available and the response process is really streamlined compared to other tendering methods.

“I would definitely encourage local business to do it,” said co-founder Natasha Bertinazzi.

Local Buy allows councils to easily search pre-qualified suppliers across a range of categories for NT based and Indigenous suppliers using inbuilt filtering tools.

Arrangements are refreshed quarterly, giving businesses more chances to become pre-qualified and councils greater flexibility when purchasing goods and services.
