Keeping councils connected: Supporting reliable IT services across Queensland

Technology plays a critical role in how councils support their communities, and our role has always been to make that technology dependable, secure, and easy to manage.

Queensland Computers began in 2005 as a Bundaberg-based family business, and we’ve never lost touch with our roots as a local Queensland IT company that wants to see organisations succeed with world-class technology. That regional heritage has shaped our approach and continues to underpin one of our core values: building real relationships based on honesty, trust, and mutual respect.

While our services have grown over time, our focus remains the same. Today, we deliver managed IT services, cybersecurity, cloud solutions, telecommunications, audio-visual systems, and end-user support to councils, government organisations, and not-for-profits across Queensland. Our teams support councils and organisations across Queensland, providing local, boots-on-the-ground support where it matters most. Queensland remains our heartland, and the business continues to be led by its original founders, the Augutis family.

Our experience working with councils has shaped how we operate. As Queenslanders with genuine connections to the organisations we support, we understand the real-world challenges councils face each day. We take a collaborative and considered approach – spending time understanding systems, operational requirements, and internal processes before recommending solutions.

What sets us apart is our commitment to long-term partnerships. We don’t just deliver a project and walk away. Instead, we focus on ongoing improvement, proactive support, and being a trusted extension of our clients’ internal teams. Clear communication, responsiveness, and accountability underpin every engagement, ensuring councils have confidence in the technology platforms that support their teams and the communities they serve.Local Buy has been part of our journey for more than five years, providing a trusted procurement framework that makes it easier for councils and eligible organisations to engage IT services with confidence.

Joining Local Buy aligned with our commitment to transparency, strong governance, and simplifying procurement for council buyers. Through the Local Buy framework, councils can efficiently issue RFQs, evaluate suppliers, and appoint services while meeting their procurement obligations.

Queensland Computers is a pre-qualified supplier under Local Buy, covering IT, telecommunications, and audio-visual services. This appointment followed a comprehensive tender process, and we have since been successfully renewed on the panel multiple times.

Being listed on Local Buy allows councils across Queensland to engage our services through VendorPanel for both project-based work and ongoing managed services. This reduces administrative complexity while maintaining clarity around scope, compliance, and delivery expectations.

Spotlight on collaboration: Bundaberg Regional Council

Councils typically engage Queensland Computers through an RFQ issued via VendorPanel under the Local Buy arrangement. From there, we work closely with council teams to confirm requirements, timelines, and desired outcomes.

In a recent engagement, Bundaberg Regional Council appointed us to deliver an IT and managed services solution aimed at improving system reliability and staff support. Following the RFQ process, we conducted discovery sessions to gain a clear understanding of the council’s environment and operational needs.

The project was delivered over several weeks and included planning, implementation, and transition into ongoing support. Throughout delivery, our team worked to minimise disruption while ensuring systems were stabilised and support processes were clearly defined.

As a result, the council experienced improved system performance, faster response times for staff IT issues, and greater confidence in their IT environment. The engagement also established an ongoing support partnership focused on continuous improvement.

"Kristy is responsive, keeps us updated on when to expect results, and always follows through. The service delivered is fantastic, and she is a real asset to Queensland Computers.”
Karina Ahlburg, Service Desk Team Leader, Bundaberg Regional Council
