Article by Jeremy Walker, Senior Engagement Manager
February was a dynamic month for the Local Buy Engagement Team, with a strong mix of online and in‑person activities designed to support councils, suppliers, and industry partners.
Throughout the month, the team delivered two online Prospective Supplier Information Sessions, a comprehensive session for councils which unpacked recent amendments to the Local Government Regulation, and a Local Buy Training session for buyers which included a live Unimarket (powered by VendorPanel) demonstration. These sessions continue to build capability and confidence for suppliers and procurement professionals alike.
Audrey Dobell met with Cairns Regional Council and the Queensland Indigenous Business Network (QIBN). She also delivered a presentation at a Tendering Workshop in Cairns, hosted by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP). Her work contributed to strengthening council relationships, Indigenous business participation and supporting suppliers navigating Local Government procurement processes.
Jeremy Walker had meetings with Southern Downs Regional Council, the Callide Dawson Chamber of Commerce (within Banana Shire), and Gympie Regional Council. These conversations helped reinforce local relationships and provided valuable insights into regional procurement needs and opportunities.
Liz Macfarlan connected with Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, City of Logan, and Redland City Council, continuing to support councils in their procurement journeys. She also presented at the Supplying to Council and Major Projects event hosted by the City of Logan, offering suppliers practical guidance on engaging with local government and accessing major project pipelines.
Meanwhile, Emma Peters met with the Department of Local Government in Townsville and delivered a Local Buy workshop for Carpentaria Shire Council. Her work supported capability building and helped ensure councils have the knowledge needed to make the most of Local Buy Arrangements.
In closing, February showcased the strength of our partnerships and our commitment to supporting councils and suppliers. As we move into the next month, the Engagement Team looks forward to continuing these conversations, expanding our reach, and helping communities access the benefits of streamlined procurement.
