Unlock smarter procurement with the Local Buy Supplier Matrix
By Michelle Stockdale, Procurement Partner
The Local Buy Supplier Matrix is designed to streamline the procurement process for councils and other buyers in VendorPanel. This article explores its features and benefits.
What is a Local Buy Supplier Matrix?
The Supplier Matrix is an Excel document created by Local Buy which provides information on each pre-qualified supplier. VendorPanel buyers who engage suppliers through Local Buy, have access to a Supplier Matrix document for each Local Buy Arrangement. These documents help buyers identify service locations, categories of service and Departures from the Conditions.
Advantages of a Supplier Matrix of Local Buy Suppliers
When using Local Buy Arrangements to request quotes from suppliers, buyers are often seeking ways to optimise the responses received to enhance operational efficiency.
One effective strategy is leveraging a Supplier Matrix of Local Buy suppliers. This approach offers numerous advantages that can significantly benefit buyers and their organisations, including:
- Identifying suppliers in the required categories.
- Identifying supplier locations.
- Identifying departures to conditions.
Local Buy Supplier Matrix documents can be downloaded directly from VendorPanel, in Excel format. This format allows buyers to use the applied filters to assist in developing a list of potential suppliers when going to market.
How to access Supplier Matrix in Vendor Panel
Some Local Buy Arrangements allow suppliers to list any departures to the General Conditions of Contract, and/or Purchaser Conditions of Contract.
2. Categories of Service
Each Local Buy Arrangement has various categories under which suppliers provide goods or services. Suppliers nominate their categories within the Local Buy Arrangement.
Buyers applying filters to one or more categories allows them to see a condensed group of suppliers who provide a particular type of goods or service.
3. Service Locations
Through the application of location filters, buyers can ensure they’re selecting suppliers who service their local region. If a supplier has a local office in a particular location, this information is also distinguishable. Recognising the proximity of suppliers can reduce transportation distances, meaning lower emissions and less environmental impact. Prioritising local suppliers allows buyers to align business practices with local procurement goals, sustainability goals and demonstrate organisational commitment to environmental responsibility.
Additionally, shorter supply chains can result in more competitive pricing and better value for money.
Further information on each service location and the council within, can be found on the additional spreadsheet tabs.
